ParentvilleMom Parentville received a copy of To Raise Happy Kids, Put Your Marriage First by David Code. I was surprised by how insightful the book was. Code recommends you take a look into your family history (and even the development of our brains) to determine what makes you tick (or get ticked off!). From here, you can learn how to change your reactions to emotional situations to get the best response from others you love. This will in turn avoid detrimental reactions from your spouse or child, especially the type of reaction that makes your spouse pay more attention to your child than you. This then causes your child to be too emotionally attached to you. When a child is not weened properly from a parent to become independent, and when parents get overly concerned with a child, he or she can unknowingly create or exacerbate illness driven by emotional and mental instability. To Raise Happy Kids, Put Your Marriage First really opens your eyes to creating a healthy marriage that your kids can see and take cues from to learn to grow and develop as individuals in the healthiest manner. Even before kids, I recommend this as a significant read for any soon-to-be-married or newly-married couple so you can be prepared for what may come.
